Gary F. Chavez, PA-C, is an NCCPA Board Certified Physician Assistant who joined Nevada Orthopedic and Spine Center in July of 2021.
He is a native of California, born in Long Beach and grew up in Sacramento. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1988 and served as an Air Traffic Controller until 1999 when he joined the Interservice Physician Assistant Program.
He graduated from the Physician Assistant Program with a Bachelors Degree from The University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2001 and went on to complete his Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2003.
He was a Family Practice Primary Care Manager in Wyoming from 2001 to 2004, where he was responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of general medicine for a diverse population which ranged from newborn to geriatric. During his time in Wyoming he was also repeatedly called upon to support the “White House Medical Unit” in providing supplemental emergency medical coverage for the Vice President of the United States, who at the time resided in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Gary was selected for and attended a formal post-graduate Physician Assistant Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship in San Antonio, Texas from 2004 to 2005. After graduation from his fellowship, he worked as an orthopedic physician assistant in Texas until he retired from the AirForce in 2008. He then joined the orthopedic staff at Optum Medical Group in Albuquerque, NM where he provided all aspects of orthopedic care, until relocating to Las Vegas in 2021.
Gary specializes in general orthopedics to include diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, fractures, and arthritis. He is skilled at administering trigger-point, intra-articular and inrta-bursal injections, as well as aspirations.
Gary enjoys spending time with his wife, dogs, and grown-up children. His interests include working out at his local gym, camping, hiking, fishing, travel, music, movies, and NFL football.
