Reconstructive Joint Surgery

Dr. John J. Kastrup was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. During this time he also began doing research and was involved with the original pioneering work on ACL reconstruction for the knee. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1988. During medical school, Dr. Kastrup did additional research work on mallet finger injuries. This work is referenced in multiple orthopedic textbooks.

Following medical school, Dr. Kastrup did his internship and orthopedic residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA from 1988-1993. He completed an additional year of subspecialty fellowship training in Adult Reconstructive Surgery, which involved the treatment of arthritis and joint replacement for hips and knees. In addition, extensive training in shoulder procedures was also undertaken.

Dr. Kastrup is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and he is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has received multiple awards including America’s Top Surgeons and Who’s Who in Medicine. His interest and dedication to finding a cure for arthritis led to his long-term involvement with the Arthritis Foundation while he was in practice previously in Erie, PA.

Dr. Kastrup uses the newest techniques in joint replacement as well as the rapid recovery protocol. He does minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, including the new partial knee replacements. Dr. Kastrup joined the Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in December of 2008.
