Dr. Joseph Yu was raised in Los Angeles, California. He graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of California in Berkeley with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He received his Medical Degree in 1999 from the University of Southern California. After completing an Orthopaedic Residency at the University of Southern California, he completed two Fellowships. The first Fellowship concentrated on Joint Replacements and Cartilage Restoration at the University of California in San Diego. The second Fellowship was completed at Duke University Medical Center, specializing in Sports Medicine. There, he was an integral part of the medical team that cared for the Duke Basketball and Football Teams, as well as the United States World Cup Soccer Team. In addition, he provided medical coverage for International Kickboxing Federation events.

Dr. Yu is a specialist in orthopaedic problems of the Knee, Hip and Shoulder. He uses the latest technology including Minimally Invasive Arthroscopic Surgery, Computer Navigation, and Minimally Invasive Joint Replacements. Uniquely, he has extensive experience in Osteochondral Allografts, which entails repairing damaged cartilage surface in the joint. He has published articles in cartilage restoration, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, and rotator cuff surgery.

Dr. Yu is Board Eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Dr. Yu joined Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center in September of 2006.
